Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis

It is a technique that allows studying the genes of an embryo before transferring it to the uterus. This can identify possible diseases or genetic alterations, helping to choose healthy embryos to increase the chances of a successful pregnancy and a healthy baby.

After the ICSI process, and using micromanipulation techniques, embryos on their third or fifth day of development are subjected to the extraction of 1 or 2 cells (blastomeres).

These cells are analyzed to study their chromosomes, using fluorescent probes that label the chromosomes, or by amplifying their DNA to obtain detailed genetic information.

Meanwhile, the rest of the embryo continues to be cultured or frozen until diagnostic results are obtained. Then, only genetically healthy embryos are transferred into the uterus.
